Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center in Tongass National Forest. 13 miles from downtown Juneau. The center was built in 1962, the first visitor center in the National Forest System. Originally designed to accommodate only 23,000 visitors per year, now over 400,000 people visit Mendenhall Glacier annually to see the enormous ice field flowing down the valley. $3 admission. 907 789-0097
