Climates vary dramatically throughout Alaska.

In Southeast Alaska the winters are warm and summers cool; winter temperatures seldom drop below zero and summer temperatures range from 50-60 degrees. Annual precipitation exceeds 100 inches in many places.

In Interior Alaska the climate is more extreme. Winter temperatures drop to -60 degrees; summer temperatures occasionally rise to 95 degrees. Winter temperatures, however, average from -5 to -10 degrees; summer temperatures, 65-75 degrees. There are 16 to 22 hours of daylight in the summer months and 4 to 6 hours of daylight in the winter months.
