Very few better-paying jobs are open to casual workers in Alaska and the Yukon. There are many reasons for this, including an Alaska law requiring that Alaska residents be given first preference for
construction and some other jobs in the state.
Paychecks for work in Alaska will run from 20 to 30 per cent higher than for similar jobs in the rest of the nation. However, the cost of living is correspondingly higher.
