Valdez Things to doValdez Fish Derbies Every year Valdez holds several fish derbies with over $80,000 in cash & prizes. The Halibut Derby runs from May to Sept., The Silver Salmon Derby from the last week in July to Sept. A one day ladies only Derby is run in August. Valdez Point of View, a knoll East of the Coast Guard building and a viewpoint just South of the Civic Center, are perfect spots to view the  old town-site to the east, the Pipeline Terminal to the south, Valdez Narrows to the west and the new town-site to the North.
