Valdez Fish Derbies Every year Valdez holds several fish derbies with over $80,000 in cash & prizes. The Halibut Derby runs from May 23rd to August 31st, The Silver Salmon Derby from July 26th to August 31st. Valdez Museum 217 Egan; 907-835-2764. The Museum illustrates Valdez history, antique fire apparatus and is open during the summer Monday through  Friday 9 to 6, $5 admission for adults, $4.50 for 65 and over, and children 14-17 are $4. Under 14 are free.

Valdez Point of View, a knoll East of the Coast Guard building and a viewpoint just South of the Civic Center, are perfect spots to view the  old town-site to the east, the Pipeline Terminal to the south, Valdez Narrows to the west and the new town-site to the North.
