Capital Transit, 907-789-6901, an area-wide bus system provides hourly service daily, with limited service on Sundays, between downtown Juneau, Douglas,  Auke Bay, Mendenhall Valley and the airport area. Fares are reasonable and  a route map and schedule are available at Centennial Hall.

Mendenhall Glacier Tour, 2-1/2 hours, (mid-May through September), daily  departures. The original "drive-up" glacier, and probably the most famous one in the world. Tour includes daily interpretive talks and continuous film and video shows. From Mendenhall, the tour continues to Auke Bay.

The visitor center offers a variety of unique attractions with our amazing 5,000 gallon aquarium and a brown bear and bald eagle display. The aquariums feature over 150 different species of local marine life. Get up close and personal with sea anemones, star fish, tanner crabs and sea cucumbers in our touch tanks. Spend time with a knowledgeable local guide who will explain the intricate hatchery process while enjoying an impressive look at the thousands of returning salmon in our fish ladder. During the months of May and June, you will have the opportunity to see juvenile salmon prior to their release. Adult salmon start returning the end of June and continue through October. Bald Eagles and seals frequent the hatchery and provide a fantastic wildlife viewing opportunity. For those guests looking to purchase salmon products, the visitor center offers a large variety of fresh and smoked salmon products ready to be picked up or mailed out year round. juneau things to doHistoric Juneau Gold Mine Tour—Relive Juneau’s mining heritage on a unique visit to what was once the world’s largest gold producing mill. Constructed in 1913, the Alaska Gastineau Mill was a revolutionary plant that introduced new technologies to the mining industry. Following a short ride to the site of the mill ruins, you will make your way through the rain forest and up Mount Roberts. At a display of old equipment, your guide will explain the different mining methods used here. After donning hard hats you will proceed along a boardwalk into a 360-foot long tunnel. Inside, experienced miners demonstrate hard rock mining techniques and give you a feel for the mining lifestyle. Returning to the mill site, where after a brief demonstration, you may pan for gold from the tailings of the mine. Pay dirt is guaranteed and you keep what you find. Wander among the many displays, the ruins and the gift shop. Your driver will explain the mining industry’s current role in Juneau as you return to town. Dress warmly for underground portion of tour.
